Admin System

A dedicated, browser-based program CCBill clients use to add Internet credit card or check billing capabilities to their site; allows users to monitor, control, and report subscriber and affiliate transactions through CCBill's automated transaction database

Affiliate

Affiliates receive commissions based on valid transactions generated by traffic sent to your website by links placed on their website

Affiliate ID

The identification number assigned to the affiliate by CCBill that is used to track referrals and to provide payouts to the affiliate for referred transactions

Affiliate System

The system where administrators can add new affiliates, set payout rates for affiliates, track website hits, and view reports related to the affiliate program.

Applet

a Java application that uses the client's web browser to perform computing functions and speed up the processing of data

Approval

Occurs when a customer requests a new subscription and receives acceptance, approval, confirmation or validation of the request. This indicates a successful sign up of a customer subscription

Authentication

The process is used to determine an individual's identity by entering a valid username and password

Authentix

A third party authentication protection program by Flicks software used for CCBill clients that house their Website on a NT based server. The authentication software keeps usernames, passwords and files private. More information about Authentix is available at http://www.flicks.com.

Authorization

The process of defining what a user can do; determines whether the user is permitted to issue certain commands. Authorization is sometimes merged with authentication.

AVS

Address Verification System. A validation method used to inform merchants about the accuracy of their customer's address. AVS responses are automatically sent when transactions with address information are processed

Banner

A graphic image used to advertise a website and route users to the website's location

Banner Farm

An HTML page on the host's server that CCBill will use to display to new Affiliates; serves as a central location for an Affiliate to choose from the latest banners

Billing Period

A one-week period beginning on Sunday and ending on Saturday. All transactions that occur within this period will be processed and payment will be issued within seven days of the close of the billing period

Bonus Level Tiering

A tier-based system used for disbursing payouts to affiliates that allows Affiliates to receive higher percentages of payouts based on higher referral and income generation levels

Case Sensitive

Able to determine the difference between uppercase and lowercase letters. For example, a case-sensitive system will recognize a literal match of uppercase and lowercase characters, such as \"UsErNaMe\" and \"uSeRnAmE\". Certain types of operating system respond to case sensitivity, while others do not.

Chargeback

A transaction that was identified by the issuer as being invalid, non-collectible, fraudulent, disputed or by other reason revoked or reversed

Clear Cache

The process of  purging old forms, thus enabling new forms to be used. CCBill clients have the capability to load different forms, but can only use one type of form at a time.

Clicks

The selection of a banner or link advertisement by a consumer

Client

CCBill Webmaster Account or owner/operator of a CCBill account

Codes

A type of variable replaced automatically with data; used in the Signup form, to prefill an E-mail, or to pass data to the approval and post denial web page

Confirmation Page

An optional CCBill page that allows the user to verify the account information; the consumer may choose Cancel Transaction (only if Opt Out is enabled)

Conversion

When a customer account changes billing status from initial recurring or trial to rebill, rebill to second rebill, etc...

Cookie

A text file stored on the consumer's computer that contains information to track Affiliate referral clicks and sales. A user must have cookies enabled in their browser for these clicks to be tracked by CCBill

Credit Card

[ A card issued by a bank or business authorizing the holder to buy goods or services on credit

Cross Sale

A secondary subscription offered to the sub-account website of a Partner's website, with which you have a pre-approved Cross Sale Relationship that can be created and presented to your new customers on the Signup form, and/ or the Approval Page

Customer/ Consumer

A CCBill client's customer, consumer, member or subscriber

CVV2 Number

Card Verification Value: A security code that is located on the back side of the credit card usually displayed following the last four digits of the account number

DBM

Stores member usernames and passwords in a file system that works like a database. Database Management stores the authentication data as pairs of strings in a binary file. A key is used to locate each member username and password. It provides a way to use a database without having to worry about how data is stored or how to retrieve information

Decline/ Denial

A customer attempts to subscribe but is unable to do so for a reason listed in CCBill's denial criteria and/or the client's denial criteria

Delimiter

An identifier used to show the end of a data set commonly used when importing data; the identifier may be a comma (,), semicolon (;), column, tab, or pipe (|)

DES

Data Encryption Standard: This practice is a conventionalized ANSI (X3.92 and X3.106) process that applies a 56-bit private (secret) key, to each 64-bit block of data

Direct Pay

Direct Pay is a billing option that can be set up on a separate form. Direct Pay allows customers from certain European countries to transfer funds to CCBill either through their online banking web site or by going in to their bank branch. A username and password is issued to the customer when the transaction has been completed.

E-Ticket

When consumers buy E-Venues from the Search and Shop System, they will be presented with an E-Ticket, which lists the websites and prices for the subscriptions they will be purchasing

Encryption

The process of encoding data using a convention called a ciphertext; the data must be decrypted using a key to decipher the data

Exceeded Usage Limits

Credit card shows excessive usage; the consumer may have used it for multiple Internet transactions in the same day

Exit Popup

A java web page that pops up when a customer leaves the Signup Form

Failed

A transaction that failed due to input error on the part of the customer

Flat File

An unsecured text file used to store a list of member usernames and passwords. Each row in the file contains separate authentication data for each member and is formatted as follows: \"username:password\"

Form Name

Each Signup form is assigned a form name. This is a three or more character code for the form. For example, 3cc - Top & Left Banner Compact

Form Template

A pre-made form; customizeable by modifying it to display the colors and text desired for the sign-up forms assigned to a particular sub-account

Fraudulent Charge

A charge that has proven to be uncollectible due to theft, fraud, or other uncollectible circumstances that a merchant is liable for

GeoIP

The process used to determine the geographic location of a consumer.

With GeoIP Forms, our system detects the geographic location of your consumer and delivers sign up forms based on their local currency and languages.

Hit

an individual access of the Signup form on the Internet

Holdback

A fee deducted each month as a form of insurance against refunds or chargebacks--the balance of which is returned to the client every 6 months

Hover Color

The color of a link when the mouse pointer is hovering over the link

Index Page

The first page of a website, normally named index.* ( .html, .htm, .php, etc...) that exists as an entry page to a particular website

Invalid Fields

The customer submitted invalid information, or a card number or card type was not supported

IP Address

The Internet Protocol Address is a uniquely assigned numerical value assigned to each computer with Internet access that allows DNS servers to locate web pages on their servers and Service Providers to track the useage of their customers

Java

a simple platform-independent object-oriented programming language used for writing applets that are downloaded from the Internet by a client and run on the client's machine

Link Affiliate Account

The process of linking all Affiliate accounts so that the affiliate receives one check instead of many

Main Account Number

An account number generated by CCBill for client

Manual Add

Allows you to add a user to the site giving access to the site and bypassing CCBill's billing system. For example, if customers want more time than they signed up for, the subscriptions can be extended at no extra cost. Manually adding a user will override whatever data is currently in the site's authentication system for that user, provided there is already a user by that name

Members Area

A secure area available only to individuals who have enrolled--through the sign-up form-- to become users of the website and have authenticated themselves by entering a username/password

Members Area URL

The URL used for customers to sign up for your website. For example, http://www.yourwebsite.com/members.

Non-Affiliate Account

A business that has a sub-account under the main account. The main account may split any or all of the non-referrer criteria to a sub-account or to sub-accounts. The sub-account is usually another referrer or another business. The business may or may not be owned solely by you

ODBC

Open DataBase Connectivity is a database connection process designed by Microsoft that is used to guarantee that any application may utilize the data from any type of database management system. CCBill writes to the client's database using an ODBC translator

One-Click Upgrade

The use of the One-Click Upgrade feature allows consumers to upgrade a subscription without re-entering CVV2 and other credit card information. If a client is using a custom upgrade form they will need to update the code after enabling this feature. This feature can only be enabled by client support.

Online Check

A transaction that is deducted electronically from the customer's checking account when they provide their routing number and account number in the check signup form

Opt Out

An option given to consumers on the confirmation page which will send customers to a page defined by the client to provide the customer with other sales opportunities

Passthrough

The setup must be a pass-through installation if using any of the following: 1) UNIX server that cannot run CGI scripts, 2) NT server without third party software, 3) .htaccess. Members are authenticated through CCBill and then passed through to a URL on the client's site. CCBill recommends that you rename the \"members\" area every two days. Otherwise, subscribers may bookmark and access areas because there is no password protection

Password

A series of case-sensitive alpha and numeric characters used for authentication of user access to a program, file or directory that is kept confidential by CCBill

Price Capping

A feature of the Affiliate Program grouping that allows clients to put affiliates with better referrals into a higher payout group based on actual signups that are generated from increased clicks

Price Point

The accepted relevant pricing structure for a geographic region. For example: Americans may be willing to pay 19.95 USD per month for a subscriptions, but if you charge 19.95 USD per month to a European consumer is the equivalent of charging the consumer about $12 Euros a month, even though that consumer in Europe is actually willing to pay 19.95 Euros for the same subscription.

Pricing

Sets up the format of the subscription options. Full: When pricing is set to \"Full\", the subscription options are formatted as in the following example: $0.00 for 5 days (trial) then $30.00 recurring every 30 days. Initial: When pricing is set to \"Initial\", the subscription options are formatted as in the following example: $0.00 for 5 days. Initial still shows the full pricing options, lower on the Signup form

Rebill

A recurring sale that has been rebilled at least one time. CCBill will keep rebilling the subscriber until the account is canceled, or the card is declined, etc...

Recurring Billing

An initial sale that is set to rebill after a specified length of time. This rebills the subscription on an iterative basis. This may include an initial price and initial period. Rebills can be performed in 30, 60, 90, 180 or 365 day increments

Redirect URL

Routes banner click surfers to the same website or sub-account. Use this URL for all traffic through the Affiliate Program

Refund

A transaction that has been refunded at the request of the subscriber through E-mail, phone, or by CCBill clients; either to a credit card or to the customers bank account if paid by online check

Regional Pricing

A method of assigning price points based on the geographical location of the consumer to maximize the revenue earned from subscriptions.

Relational Database

Uses a logical structure to store the authentication data in a table with columns and fields. There should be no duplication of any data, helping to maintain database integrity. This can also represent a huge saving in file size, which is important when dealing with large volumes of data

Returned Check

An on-line check returned because the subscriber had insufficient funds to cover the transaction

Routing/ Transit Number

A 9-digit number that identifies the bank where the account is held; usually printed on the bottom of the check

Serve Banners

The CCBill clients' server and website bandwidth are used to access and load banner images, allowing the client full control over the appearance of banners, but often affecting the bandwidth of the website where the banners are housed

Signup Form

The form used to request personal information about a user who is attempting to gain access to a website; information collected includes checking account or credit card account information, name, address, etc... store in CCBill's database for processing

A transaction that is charged only once

Split

CCBill clients may split up fees, payouts, bonuses, with non-referral accounts for specific sub-accounts. These non-referral accounts are usually referrers or businesses. CCBill clients may also split fees with referrers

Subaccount Number

A child account of the main account number--in a 4-digit format, utilized to allow clients to set up different accounts for different websites without having to setup a new CCBill account

Subscriber Account

Information about the subscriber is stored in CCBill's database such as name, password, username, credit card number, address, E-mail, etc. This information is used to track the subscriber's access time and on-line location for billing purposes

Subscription ID

A 10-digit number, which is used for billing purposes of the customer's account. CCBill credit card subscription numbers begin with \"1\", test sign ups begin with a \"2\" and on-line check subscription numbers begin with \"6\"

Subscription Type

The options you customize for the subscription. This includes such things as follows: price of subscription, period of subscription, number of rebills, etc. A Signup form may have several one time or recurrent billing types, allowing the CCBill client various choices for sign up

Subscription Type ID

The number assigned toEach single billing type or recurring billing type; assigned by CCBill

Timed Popup

A pop-up web page that is set to show a certain amount of time (set by the client) after a customer leaves the signup form

Tracker

You can setup referrer-like accounts to track clicks, number of sales, and total sales coming from link and banner advertisements. Consumers click advertisements and are redirected through CCBill to your site. The tracker reports the amount of sales from the sign up referral

Trial

The time period in which a customer is allowed to try the service offered without paying or at an initial lowered rate

Upsale

A secondary subscription offered on a sub-account websites, which can be created and presented to your new customer on the Signup Form, and/ or the Approval Page

Username

A unique, case-sensitive name--consisting of alpha and numeric characters--used to gain access to a program, file or directory and is kept confidential by CCBill

Visited Link Color

The color for links already visited

Wildcard

A character such as an asterisk (*) or a question mark (?) that is used to replace unknown data or return multiple data sets when searching for data in a database
